Most of us think of taking transit as a way to save ourselves money, time and hassle. A nice option to have. However, transit also provides health and environmental benefits to our region and your life:
- Having the option of taking the bus or train to work or shopping means you can leave you car at home, enjoy walking and riding your bike in the Colorado sunshine, and get to your destination without having to buy gas or find parking.
- You can combine walking and biking with transit to make time for your daily workout, rather than spending that time sitting in your car, frustrated. It'll make you feel good. Studies show that communities designed with dense residential areas, mixed use neighborhoods (residential combined with commercial use), and connected streets and paths enjoy better health.
- Transit keeps your carbon footprint small. Transportation accounts for 23% of Colorado’s carbon dioxide emissions, and this amount is growing. Riding on a bus or train with many other people gives you a much smaller carbon footprint than driving alone in your car. Biking and walking of course give you no carbon footprint!
