Colorado is positioned to become a leader in promoting clean renewable sources of energy -- the fastest, cheapest and most reliable way to increase energy supplies and hold down prices. In 2004 CEC played an integral role in helping pass Amendment 37 -- which was overwhelmingly approved by voters -- requiring that our state's utilities generate 10% of electricity from renewable sources by 2015. We are on pace to meet this goal well ahead of schedule, proving that when we put real resources behind new energy solutions, we can quickly and efficiently achieve positive change. In 2007 we built upon the success of Amendment 37 to help secure passage of state legislation to double our state renewable standard to 20% by 2020. In 2009 Colorado kept a razor sharp focus in building the New Energy Economy as a strategy for spurring green jobs and economic development amidst the economic recession, according to advocates and businesses at a state capitol briefing on the 2009 legislative session.

Today CEC continues to work with other conservation, agricultural, labor and business organizations to promote the development of clean energy sources such as wind, solar, biofuels and efficiency measures. Colorado is at a crossroads; it is time to choose new, clean and efficient technologies over the old, dirty, outdated ones. With your help we will call upon our elected officials and agency leaders to pursue more energy efficiency and clean energy technologies as the best way to diversify our energy supply, create good jobs, promote energy security, and hold down energy prices.
