Radio Ad Launched Today Thanks Colorado Legislators for Support of Modernized Rules, Counters TV Ads by Oil & Gas Industry

Colorado's leaders have spent the past two years developing common-sense rules on oil and gas drilling, holding hearings across the state and working with oil and gas companies. These rules were unanimously adopted by the Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission in December.

Now, as the rules are about to be approved by the State Legislature, the Colorado Oil and Gas Association has gone on the attack with an advertising and lobbying campaign against the new rules.

In response, a diverse coalition of public health, sportsmen, landowners and conservation groups launched an ad campaign today in support of the new rules, which would safeguard Colorado's drinking water, public health and wildlife.

The radio ad, which will run in metro Denver, Pueblo, and the Western Slope, is titled, "It's about the Future," and states that the new energy rules protect public health, the economy, and the long-term security of the state.

"These rules are about protecting Colorado's economy – now and in the future," said Elise Jones, Executive Director of Colorado Environmental Coalition. "Adopting modern drilling technologies and best management practices will not only allow for a healthy oil and gas industry, they will also safeguard the clean air and water, scenic landscapes and abundant wildlife that are the backbone of Colorado's economy."

The ad states in part: "These rules not only protect jobs today, they make an investment in the legacy we will leave our children. A legacy of clean water, clean air and a clean energy economy that looks beyond next quarter's profits to the next generation."
