During this time of transition, we strongly applaud Governor-elect Hickenlooper for retaining the leadership and experience embodied in current Department of Natural Resources Director and West Slope native Mike King.  Mike brings a wealth of knowledge and skill to the position as well as a fair and balanced approach to including diverse stakeholders and the public in key natural resource decisions.  He understands that Colorado’s world class scenery, wildlife populations and natural resources are the backbone to our state’s economic prosperity and integral to the high quality of life we know and love in our state. During his tenure as Director, Mike successfully addressed a diversity of complex issues ranging from increasing water efficiency and ensuring healthy flows in Colorado’s rivers, to achieving adoption of new uranium mining regulations and implementing new oil and gas rules, to supporting the protection of magnificent landscapes like the Vermillion Basin in northwest Colorado.  We look forward to continuing to work with Director King as he ably leads the state in managing Colorado's abundant natural resources
