In the spring, male sage grouse gather for an elaborate mating ritual. With white plumage unfurled and deep yellow throat pouches inflated with air, the 2-foot-tall birds vie for the attention of female grouse. Today, this ritual is renewed in a declining, fragmented habitat - by a smaller population of male grouse. The sage grouse is yet another icon fighting to find a niche in a rapidly changing West....
