The $1.5-billion Horizon Uptown project might not be financially worthwhile, say members of an Aurora organization of disgruntled taxpayers.
Members of Citizens for Responsible Aurora Government say their organization opposes the project based on findings from an independent study conducted by Denver-based BBC Research & Consulting, a firm the city hired to determine the development’s financial feasibility.
Lend Lease, an Australian-based developer with offices in Denver, has plans to turn an empty field in Aurora into a 503-acre mixed-used development that would include office space, a school and a library.
Aurora City Council members in January agreed that the field, near Interstate 70 and E-470, could be considered blight.
Members of the CRAG say the project wouldn’t yield positive financial effects, and instead, more budget deficits could ensue.
