By thoughtfully remembering Colorado Environmental Coalition in your estate plans, you can leave the legacy you envision for Colorado and ensure that your grandchildren and their children can enjoy the Colorado you love today. At the same time, a bequest to Colorado Environmental Coalition -- a tax exempt charitable organization -- can help reduce or eliminate taxes which might otherwise be owed on your estate.
Giving through Your Will or Trust
For legal purposes, CEC's corporate name is Colorado Environmental Coalition. We are an IRS-approved 501(c)3 non-profit charitable organization; our tax exempt identification number is 84-0614285.
If you already have a will, you can use the suggested wording below to make a codicil that names Colorado Environmental Coalition a beneficiary of your estate. To avoid estate or inheritance taxes on your gift: "I direct that no estate or inheritance taxes be paid from the share of any property devised or bequeathed to Colorado Environmental Coalition."
A specific bequest allows you to leave a gift, usually in the form of a cash disbursement. Suggested language: "I give, devise and bequeath to the Colorado Environmental Coalition, 1536 Wynkoop Street #5C, Denver, CO 80202 the sum of $[amount] to be used for its general purposes."
A residuary bequest allows you to leave a remainder or a percentage of your estate to CEC. To leave a residuary: "I give, devise and bequeath to the Colorado Environmental Coalition, 1536 Wynkoop Street #5C, Denver, CO 80202 all [or insert %] of the rest, residue, and remainder of my estate, to be used for its general purposes."
A contingency bequest allows you to make your gift contingent on other circumstances. To make your bequest contingent: "If any of the above-named beneficiaries should predecease me, I hereby bequeath her or his share to the Colorado Environmental Coalition, 1536 Wynkoop Street #5C, Denver, CO 80202 to be used for its general purposes."
There are many other ways to include Colorado Environmental Coalition in your estate plans, including IRAs, or gift annuities. CEC is not in a position to offer financial or estate planning advice. We recommend reviewing any gift plan with your personal advisors.
